Social work accreditation introduction slowed down to five initial areas

After concerns that the original plans could potentially destabilise the workforce and create a two-tier system the new accreditation system for children's social workers will now only be tested in five areas (Bury, Leeds, Manchester, Oldham and Wigan).

The DfE said that they had been listening to the sector in making this decision and are keen that they have the right structures in place. They also pointed out that accreditation will not be mandatory at this stage. That will be decided based on findings from the testing phases.
