Break Charity, Norwich - Coaching Skills
We delivered a 1-Day Coaching Skills Course for Break Charity, designed to introduce staff to the principles and practice of coaching.
Our programme provides a practical overview of what coaching is, the difference between coaching and mentoring, and how coaching conversations can be used to empower individuals and teams. Participants gained confidence in applying a simple model for practice, developing core skills such as:
- Understanding what makes a good coaching conversation
- Effective and reflective listening
- Using open and powerful questions
- Fostering collaboration through a coaching style and spirit
- Applying the GROW method in real scenarios
The day concluded with a practical session, allowing participants to put their new skills into action straight away.
Why it was helpful
For Break Charity, the training equipped staff with tools to enhance their everyday interactions with colleagues and young people. By embedding coaching skills, the team can:
- Strengthen reflective practice and problem-solving
- Build more empowering conversations with young people
- Support colleagues through mentoring-style discussions
- Foster a more collaborative and supportive culture across the organisation
The course offered immediate, practical takeaways while laying the foundation for longer-term culture change, where coaching becomes part of daily practice.
