Norfolk County Council- Serious Youth Violence Training

Norfolk was interested in commissioning Serious Youth Violence training as part of a wider workforce development programme that we have been commissioned to deliver. The training was a 1-day virtual session (delivered across two half days) to allow time in between for attendees to reflect on the key elements discussed on day one.  The training included case studies and learning from recent reviews. Those attending came from a range of disciplinary backgrounds including education staff, youth workers, drugs and alcohol services and Children’s Social Services.

 Course Learning Outcomes

1.    Understand the key terms and definitions related to Serious Youth Violence and explore local prevalence rates of serious youth violence 

2.    Identify the signs and indicators of criminal exploitation (including exploring intersectionality) 

3.    Examine underlying causes of youth violence, the impact of trauma and adverse life experiences, peer and online influence which influences decisions around organised criminal activity 

4.    Examine some of the serious risks associated with gang activity for young people and implications for safeguarding 

5.    Identify the emotional and developmental mental health difficulties experienced by young people at risk of youth violence 

6.    Understand best practice to engage, support and deliver effective interventions to safeguard children and young people (including exit strategies and safeguarding).
