YMCA Norfolk – Trauma Informed Practice

We are regularly commissioned by YMCA Norfolk to deliver training in Trauma Informed Practice (TIP), supporting their teams who work directly with young people.

Our one-day course provides an introduction and practical overview of Trauma Informed Practice, helping staff to understand the impact of trauma and how to respond in ways that build trust, safety, and resilience.

Learning Outcomes
Participants leave the course with:

  • An understanding of what Trauma Informed Practice is and why it matters in youth work
  • Knowledge of the values and principles that underpin TIP
  • Awareness of the four principles of TIP – Recognise, Respond, Avoid Re-traumatisation, Build Resilience
  • Practical insight into what Trauma Informed Practice looks like in everyday interactions
  • Strategies for offering choice, collaboration, empathy, and safety in their work with young people

Why it was helpful
For YMCA Norfolk, the training equips staff with both the mindset and practical tools to respond more effectively to young people who may have experienced trauma. This strengthens relationships, reduces the risk of re-traumatisation, and promotes a culture of trust and empathy.

By embedding Trauma Informed Practice, YMCA Norfolk staff are better able to create safe, supportive environments where young people can build resilience, engage positively, and move forward with greater confidence.
