Nicole Gibson

Nicole has worked in Social work for 40 years, qualifying back in the 1980s, Nicole has worked as a social worker, team manager, IRO,  Service Manager and Head of Service. All her experience has been in children’s social work and has included child protection work. Nicole’s last post was in a Child protection and Child in Need Service where she successfully led her service in the last OFSTED from requires improvement to good. Nicole has experience of assessment, child protection, LAC and Children with disabilities. 

Nicole also worked part-time as a free-lance trainer from 2003-2011, training in safeguarding, disabilities and children’s legislation. Nicole served on the Child Death over view panel when she was an IRO from 2007-2011, this included meeting parents who wished to discuss their children’s death and how things could be handled differently. 

Nicole is clear that working within child protection requires strong leadership and a safe and supported environment so that professionals can feel safe to explore feelings. Nicole provided the safeguarding training for the London Borough of Enfield from 2004-2021, providing multi-agency workers with basic knowledge and the space to explore their role; Nicole has also offered this to serving councillors. Nicole also provided GP’s with basic knowledge on legislation and their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children.

Professional Qualifications

Nicole completed her BA degree in Social Work at The University of Middlesex in 1980 and since that time has worked in frontline children services teams, across various London Local Authorities and in a variety of different roles and areas of children’s social work. Nicole has undertaken training throughout her career and remains keen to learn, believing that there is always something to learn and develop.
