Sandra has extensive knowledge of the public sector, with 15 years experience as a Senior Service Manager in Children’s Services and previously as a Social Work manager and practitioner, specialising in child protection and safeguarding.
Her work for Interface has included designing and delivering training around Adverse Childhood Experiences, Trauma informed Practice, supporting leadership teams and embedding performance improvement across Children Services Departments.
During her career Sandra was responsible for a broad range of operational delivery, including Children’s Services Social Work - Assessment, Family Intervention, Looked After Children, and Attendance, Special Education and Early Years services. She has a wealth of experience in leading and supporting teams through organisational change, implementing turnaround activities to move forward dysfunctional teams, writing and delivering service and team plans. This has involved performance management, inspection readiness, writing improvement plans, undertaking process and thematic audit and inspection.
Sandra had a key role in developing the authority’s early help offer, working closely with senior managers across partner agencies, to achieve a joint strategy, ethos and delivery plan. She also had lead responsibility for developing and delivering the authority’s equality strategy and action plan.
Sandra has a keen interest in creatively developing the social work role and led on innovative projects countywide to place social workers within schools and children’s centres.
She has undertaken roles in various forums with Headteachers and other school staff to develop close working relationships and currently pursues an interest in vulnerable children’s education as a Governor for Short Stay Schools.
Staff development has been an integral part of many of Sandra’s previous roles, requiring her to write and deliver training material, organise many staff conferences and workshops to respond to new initiatives and implement county-wide practice programmes.
Through the Erasmus programme, Sandra has engaged in an exchange programme with Children’s Services in Germany. She is currently involved in delivering seminar programmes to university social work students in Germany.
She is passionate about delivering excellent services, improving social work standards and promoting truly integrated multi-disciplinary working to enhance the life chances and opportunities for vulnerable children and families.
Sandra is a registered Social Worker and has a BA Applied Social Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies (distinction).
