This training has been commissioned for staff from all agencies who work in or with Family Hubs. “Motivational Interviewing” was a key and popular component of face to face Family Hub training that was provided from 2018 and in 2019 we offered a standalone course for practitioners which with COVID-19, we are now providing through eLearning. Awareness of Motivational Interviewing techniques helps practitioners to really ‘understand’ what is going on for family members they are seeking to engage and work with. The techniques will help staff from all agencies to have reflective and less challenging conversations and deal with ambivalence and resistance. Importantly this will give them skills and understanding around giving ownership to clients which is a crucial element of effective Early Help.
