Gavin Williamson has confirmed that the government will make free school meal vouchers available to support disadvantaged families during the new lockdown
Mr Williamson said that ‘extra funding’ would be made available to help either through the provision of food parcels or supermarket vouchers.
He said “Where schools cannot offer food parcels or use local solutions, we will ensure a national voucher scheme is in place so every eligible child can access free school meals while their school remains closed”.
Meanwhile the Department for Education has also announced the provision of an additional 150,000 laptops and tablets and launched a new scheme with key mobile network operators to provide free data until July this year to help disadvantaged children learn from home.
