Education Secretary confirms SEND review will be delayed until early next year

Gavin Williamson has confirmed that the governments key review into provision for children with Special Educational needs and Disabilities (SEND) will not be published until 2021.

Speaking at the Education Select Committee, Williamson stated that the outcomes of the review would be released ‘later than I would have liked’ due to the impact of Covid 19 on Department of Education priorities.

The review was announced last September amid increasing concerns that children with SEND were facing a ‘postcode lottery’ with provision varying greatly across the country.

The DfE has since faced additional criticism during lockdown over its decision to relax legislation relating to children with SEND and education, health and care plans.
