Government announces new Schools Bill in Queen’s speech

The Prince of Wales has announced the government’s intention to introduce new education reforms in the next sitting of parliament.

The reforms include a crackdown on school absences and new rules that will allowing councils to run multi-academy trusts with a view to all schools becoming academies by 2030.

The reforms aim to “help every child fulfil their potential wherever they live” whilst improving the quality of schools and higher education.

The bill will also give the schools regulator powers to crack down on unregistered schools in England, and includes plans to introduce a direct National Funding Formula designed to ensure that “that every school is allocated funding on a fair and consistent basis, wherever it is in the country”.
