The DfE has announced that it will continue to provide therapeutic support for children who are adopted or who live under special guardianship arrangements.
Whilst news of the future of the Adoption Support Fund was expected in November’s comprehensive spending review the DfE has brought forward an announcement that will see the fund extend beyond the previously announced March 2020 end date.
The fund has already provided support worth £100m to over 35,000 families since its launch in 2015 and is now expected to be available at least until July 2020.
Children and Families minister Nadhim Zahawi said:
The fund can "change lives”, "That's why we are committing additional funding ahead of the spending review settlement, allowing some families to continue drawing support beyond March 2020 where the therapy has started in 2019."
