A hospital based youth work service aimed at helping young people affected by gang crime and violence is to expand to three more London hospitals.
Redthread’s Youth Violence Intervention Programme which runs in hospital emergency departments in partnership with the major trauma network, aims to reduce serious youth violence, and has revolutionised the support available to young victims of violence. The service focuses ‘in the moment’ and encourages and supports young people in making healthy choices and positive plans to disrupt the cruel cycle of violence that can too easily lead to re-attendance, re-injury, and devastated communities.
The service is already active in hospitals in Lambeth, Tooting and Paddington and, from the Spring, will also deploy youth workers in University Hospital Lewisham, Croydon University Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.
