Isle of Wight, Working with Baby, Child and Teenage Brain development

Interface delivered a one-day practice-based program to staff form a range of disciplines, including nursery, children’s social care, school and youth support.

The training day was an interactive process allowing staff to consider the impact on children and teenagers at differing ages and stages of their development.

Staff explored case examples to identify individual developmental needs and offer interventions that would support the whole family.

Learning outcomes from the day included:

  • Key understanding of baby, child and teenage brain development.
  • Understanding the impact of poverty, neglect and poor parenting on the developing brain.
  • Understanding the impact on practice and being able to compile effective interventions based on child/teenage developmental needs.
  • Considering the impact of external factors - environment, culture, religion, school and media.
  • Building effective communication strategies with children and teenagers.

Due to positive feedback and staff requests Isle of Wight have commissioned a second day to be included on their training calendar.

 Learner Feedback included:

  • A useful training day that will impact how I work with children within my nursery setting and how I support my own teenagers. Delivered so clearly, Thank you.
  • Really helpful information on understanding teenagers that I will share with my team.
  • Thought provoking day that I found very emotional, excellently delivered.
  • Essential training for all those working with teenagers.
