Building Confident Leaders in Family Help and Children’s Services
As the government’s Families First reforms accelerate, local authorities are being asked to strengthen their family help and multi-agency safeguarding systems — a transformation that depends on skilled, confident managers.
First line managers are the crucial link between frontline practitioners and senior leaders. They set the tone for culture, ensure service quality, and provide the supervision that keeps practice safe and effective. Yet many step into these roles without the structured support they need to lead well.
We have reponed by creating a new First Line Management Development Programme which equips managers in children’s services and family help with the tools, knowledge, and mindset to succeed — from managing teams and supervising staff to driving improvement and leading change.
The programme focuses on real-world challenges and provides practical strategies that can be applied immediately.
