Exciting News: Helping Give Every Child the Best Start in Life

We’re absolutely delighted to share that we’ve been awarded a new contract to support the Best Start in Life Taskforce, co-chaired by the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Department for Education (DfE).

This work is all about making sure more children arrive at school ready to thrive. The government’s Best Start in Life Strategy has set an ambitious target: that 75% of children reach a good level of development by age 5.

Why this matters - Those first five years are life-shaping. Skills in communication, language, physical development, literacy, and maths all build the foundation for future learning and wellbeing. But we know not every child has the same opportunities—and that’s where local councils, health teams, early years providers, schools, and community organisations all play a huge role.

Our part in the journey

We’ll be:

• Gathering the best examples of what’s working across the country
• Talking to councils and partners about what really helps children and families
• Exploring the barriers that get in the way—things like funding, workforce pressures, data-sharing, and joined-up services
• Developing practical solutions that can be shared and scaled to help everyone reach the national ambition

As part of this work, we’ll be reviewing existing policy, literature, and research, carrying out interviews, and designing workshops with key partners—including strategic leaders, commissioners, practitioners, and parent groups. We’ll also be mapping practice to understand interventions that work well and shaping a series of case studies to share learning across the system.

We’re really looking forward to working with the Taskforce, the LGA, and partners across the system to make sure more children get the strong start in life they deserve.
