First of a series of National Practice Guides on kinship care published
Foundations, the ‘What Works Centre for Children and Families’ has published the first national Practice Guide on Kinship Care, providing clarity on support proven to improve outcomes.
As well as summarizing relevant research on the topic, the Kinship Care Practice Guide also translates the strongest available evidence into actionable recommendations to support local leaders in strengthening support for kinship families and improving outcomes.
Commissioned by the Department for Education, the Practice Guides bring together the strongest evidence from the UK and abroad about how best to achieve the objectives in the Children’s Social Care National Framework.
Janet Daby, Minister for Children and Families said: “The Kinship Care Practice Guide will play a key role in driving best practice in local authorities and ensuring kinship carers have clear routes to accessing the help they need.”
As a next step in their work on kinship care, Foundations will be partnering with a small number of local authorities to support the embedding of the recommendations in the Guide, and generate ‘how to’ learning that can be shared more widely.
