Government launches Families First Partnership scheme

The government has launched its Families First Partnership (FFP) programme providing councils funds to invest in early help and family support services.

Launching the £500 million scheme, which includes £270mn to fund a new Children’s Social Care Prevention Grant, Janet Daby, Minister for Children and Families, Department for Education said:

“We are committed to rebalancing the children’s social care system. The publication of this programme guide confirms our expectations of safeguarding partners to implement reforms to Family Help, multi-agency child protection and Family Group Decision Making – building on a body of evidence of what we know works to support families to stay together and thrive, and ultimately reduce the number of looked after children, safely.”

“We envision a transformed system, where practitioners from social work, police, health, education, and beyond work together to promote the wellbeing of children and keep them safe from harm. This requires us all to work together effectively, to enact and resource a multiagency approach throughout the programme and the whole system reform it entails.”
