Met Police launches new Children’s strategy

The Metropolitan Police has announced the introduction of a new strategy for children aiming to  make a ‘meaningful difference’ to how they police and safeguard London’s children.

Through the strategy they will be introducing a Child First policy meaning officers in all their encounters with children, will see them as children first, recognising that children are different to adults, with different need and vulnerabilities, and therefore need to be treated differently.

Through the strategy the Met aims to:

  • increase efforts to prevent and reduce crime committed against children, and do more to identify those who exploit and abuse children and bring them to justice
  • ensure children who engage in criminal behaviour have access to appropriate and effective interventions
  • ensure officers have the capacity and capability to safeguard all children
  • improve partnership-working, setting out clearly the role of the police in keeping children safe
