Education Secretary, Justine Greening reported round 200 nurseries and pre-schools are to receive a share of this funding. The first six areas for the £2m investment are: Blackpool, Derby, Norwich, Oldham, Scarborough and West Somerset.
The aim is to remove obstacles for parents who are struggling to balance their job with the cost of childcare. The funding, backed by the £6bn investment in childcare by 2020 allows more free places available. From September 2017 the government plan is that all three and four years olds, whose parents are working, will be entitled to 30 hours of government-funded childcare.
