Motivational Interviewing - West London Zone

Staff work with local children’s centres, schools and employment agencies to identify the children and young people who would benefit from extra support. They support each person (or their parents) identify their strengths and goals and then bring in the support they need from the partnership.

For that reason Motivational Interviewing absolutely fitted with their ethos and plans as they are working with individuals and families to bring about sustainable change.

Over 2 days we provided staff with the knowledge and awareness how to use motivational interviewing as a technique. They considered the cycle of change and how to work with ambivalence and resistance. They took away skills and tools and considered how to plan for sessions, how to make and use effective plans and had lots of practice in holding “motivational conversations”.
