National Day Nurseries Association urges members to check for council budget underspends.

The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) has issued advice to its members to challenge their council’s funding plans for potential budget underspends.

The advice comes on the back of success of its Sheffield early years network which identified an £800,000 underspend  by Sheffield City Council in its 2018/19 budget. After presenting a challenge to the council the NDNA members received additional funding taking the rate awarded from £4.10 to £4.14 and increasing the deprivation supplement by a third to 40p per child – both backdated to April 2019.

Purnima Tanuku, the charity's chief executive, praised the work and persistence showed by the Sheffield network and urged other areas to check early year figures in their own areas.
