Youth Workers in Northumberland have been recognised for their commitment and dedication to continuing to support young people during the pandemic.
With national guidance requiring youth centres to close in mid-March, Northumberland Youth Service has maintained contact with young people through regular phone calls and the use of technology. In the past 18 weeks the service has managed to maintain contact with 370 young people making 2,500 phone calls and 570 face to face contacts.
The service has delivered 400 sports packs provided Northumberland Sport to encourage physical activity and offered activities and developed contact with young carers.
Cabinet member for children services at Northumberland Council, Wayne Daley said: “This package of support by the team has helped many young people stay focussed, helped them to feel part of something and kept them in contact with others during this time.
“I commend the team for their commitment, they’ve worked extremely hard to ensure that this reached all those who needed it and continue to connect with young people as we move into a further easing of lockdown.”
