Over a quarter of CAMHS funding fails to reach frontline services

The government has published figures which indicate that only £688m (72%) of the £953m allocated since 2015 for CAMHS transformation has gone to local clinical commissioning groups.

An extra £1.4bn has been set aside for the years up to 2020 as part of the Future in Mind initiative to help improve child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). However, figures indicate that a significant proportion of these monies have failed to reach the frontline services they are intended to support.

With demand for CAMHS services outstripping supply and reports that many children in need of CAMHS support are being turned away due to a lack of capacity the news has attracted widespread criticism.
