Parental Capacity to-Change Training - Leicestershire

We provided a 2-day core programme for a range of staff in the early help and social care teams. We and then returned to the authority for 2 follow up days where we explored the extent to which the model had become embedded into operational practice. We tailored the follow up days to meet the specific needs of the services. This included a focus on sustaining change and trauma informed practice.

Feedback included:

“It will help me look at the overall picture of a family and consider what the barriers might be, rather than assume it’s about disengagement from a service.”

“It will give me a new way of working with my parents to help them change.”

“It is very focussed, can be used to provide evidence in court – more simple approach/direct way to address concerns with parents – parents will be clearer around expectations.”

“It will help inform parents capacity to change and whether this is likely or unlikely within the child’s timescale e.g court process.

“Helps to identify SMART targets and monitor and review.”

“all social workers should undertake this training.”
