London Borough of Redbridge Council has received an Outstanding rating for its Children’s Services department, an improvement on the good rating received three years ago.
Judgements were graded Outstanding in all areas with the exception of the ‘Experiences and progress of children in care and care leavers’ category which received a ‘Good’ grading.
The report points to the contributions made by the recently appointed director of children’s services and the ‘relentless drive and ambition’ of senior managers and leaders which lead to the provision of ‘consistently strong and highly effective services for children’.
It suggests that the exceptional leadership is ‘enabling and challenging, promoting best practice and innovation'.
The report goes on to comment ‘Staff enjoy working in Redbridge. They feel safe and well supported. This results in purposeful work to keep children at home safely whenever it is possible and safe to do so. This exemplary management has created conditions that afford workers the time, professional expertise and capacity to get to know children and young people well and exercise their professional expertise. This best practice secures positive experiences and good progress for children’.
