Scheme launches to reduce violence in London prisons

The London Mayors Office has announced the launch of its ‘Pathfinder Programme’ to help drive down prison violence.

The scheme is s a Violence Reduction Unit and Mayor’s Office of Policing and Crime (MOPAC) initiative which will work to address the causes of violence in prisons, reducing violence in prisons as well as in London’s communities, after the end of a sentence.

The 2 year programme will operate in HMP Wormwood Scrubs and HMP Isis prisons and will use a trauma informed approach as the basis of activities.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime will provide £450,000 to fund a programme to work with young offenders in HMP Isis from 2019 to 2021 with London’s Violence Reduction Unit funding £250,000 for a gang screening programme which will run in HMP Wormwood Scrubs from 2019 to 2021.
