Team around the family and SMART Plans

Staff working with individuals or families experiencing complex challenges will either be taking a lead role in, or will be part of a Team around the Family. This is a core part of the work with multi agency partners to bring about effective and sustainable change.

This practical programme allows staff to understand the role of the Team around the Family consider the role of the chair and other members and give you practical tips and plenty of practice in how to effectively run a team around the family meeting.  We will consider:

  • Putting the TAF in context – where does it fit in assessment, plan and review
  • Practicalities of running a TAF and the role of TAF members
  • Charing skills- active listening, relationship building, managing conflict and setting clear boundaries and expectations,
  • What to consider in relation to the family, the worker, other agencies
  • SMART planning
  • The role of the chair and tips for success

 This practical programme allows staff to understand the role of the Team around the Family as part of the care/support planning process, consider the role of the chair and other members and give you practical tips and plenty of practice in how to effectively run a team around the family meeting.  It is practical and “hands on” with a focus on skills and strategy development, backed up by an understanding of why approaches work.  It produces more confident and competent practitioners who are ready to chair Team around the Family Meetings and bring about effective change as as result.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand why, when and how to run TAF’s
  • To identify and gain the key skills required to chair meetings.
  • Ability to consider roles of TAF members.
  • Improve competence to confidently chair Team Around the Family Meetings.
  • Gain skills to notice and address stuck cases and poor practice.
  • Be able to construct clear SMART family action plans.

Cancellation Policy

We are very flexible and will do our utmost to rearrange training should the need arise, but our trainers obviously commit themselves to the training days agreed and so if you need to cancel at short notice we will need to charge a cancellation fee to cover their time.
