Training

To provide trauma-informed care to children, young people and families professionals need to have an awareness and understanding of the impact of trauma on child development and learn how to effectively minimize its effects without causing additional trauma.

We provide a range of training packages from a 1-day introduction to a 3-day programme and follow up workshops to ensure staff engage in programmes which best meet their level of responsibility for identifying and responding to the impact of trauma.  We draw on up to date evidence from research related to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) and the impact of trauma and provide information on building trauma-informed systems, and support networks that address secondary/vicarious trauma for workers.

Training and support will be tailored to local area need and offer staff resources and tools to build confidence to work with individuals and families alongside increasing their knowledge and understanding.  Training covers:

  • An understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences – what they are and the impact
  • What is meant by the term “trauma” and how it affects the nervous system
  • How trauma symptoms may present
  • The principles of self-regulation and exercises that can promote this
  • What Trauma Informed Practice is and how it applies to your setting/service
  • Different ways of taking a trauma informed approach
  • How we manage the impact of supporting traumatised children on our own well-being
  • Practice in the training room with real case examples
  • Action plans for self and service/setting
  • Opportunity to explore methods to evaluate the implementation of Trauma Informed Practice
  • Inform and support the development of trauma informed policies, systems and approaches to build organisational and individual resilience.
