Supervision and Staff Support Development Programme
A practical, CPD-accredited programme for managers and supervisors
Effective supervision is fundamental to high-quality practice and a well-supported workforce. Good supervision creates protected space for practitioners to think, reflect, analyse and learn. It supports professional judgement and decision-making, helps practitioners manage complexity, risk and uncertainty, recognises the emotional impact of the work and provides appropriate challenge and accountability.
Our CPD-accredited Supervision and Staff Support Development Programme gives managers and supervisors practical approaches, tools and confidence to provide supervision that is reflective, relational, analytical and supportive – while keeping the quality, safety and impact of practice at its heart.
About the programme
Our two-day Staff Support and Reflective Supervision Programme is independently accredited by the CPD Certification Service.
Practical and highly interactive, the programme helps managers and supervisors develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide supervision that strengthens practice, supports professional learning and wellbeing, and enables practitioners to work effectively with complexity, risk and uncertainty.
Participants explore the supervisory relationship, reflective and reflexive practice, critical thinking and professional curiosity, psychological safety, appropriate challenge, identity and bias, systemic approaches, emotional impact and wellbeing, and the role of supervision in strengthening decision-making and preventing drift.

Who is it for?
The programme is suitable for new and experienced managers, supervisors, senior practitioners and others responsible for supporting and developing staff.
We have delivered supervision development across children's social care, Early Help and Family Help, Family Hubs, adult services, Youth Justice, education, health and CAMHS, voluntary and community organisations and other public services.
What will participants develop?
- greater confidence in providing reflective, relational and analytical supervision
- skills for balancing support and wellbeing with challenge and accountability
- stronger questioning, critical thinking and professional curiosity
- approaches for exploring complexity, risk and uncertainty
- greater awareness of identity, difference, power, assumptions and bias
- confidence in recognising and exploring the emotional impact of the work
- practical approaches for addressing difficult conversations and when practitioners become “stuck”
- a stronger focus on the quality, safety and impact of practice.
Practical learning that transfers into practice
The programme uses discussion, reflection, practical exercises, case examples and supervision tools throughout, giving participants opportunities to apply the learning directly to their own supervisory practice.
Participants leave the programme with an individual action plan, identifying areas of their supervisory practice they want to develop and practical commitments for change. The action plan can be taken into their own supervision and reviewed at three and six months to support continued reflection and application of learning.
Bespoke to your organisation
The programme can be tailored to reflect your supervision arrangements, organisational context and priorities. Where appropriate, we can incorporate your supervision policy, agreement, recording template or practice framework and place additional emphasis on particular workforce or practice priorities.
- All courses are offered on a Face to Face or Virtual basis.
- Bespoke & Open Training Courses Available.
