Whole Family Working

Whole family working requires a professional to work with all family members building a safe trusting relationship to support and enhance effective positive change.

Professionals require specific skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to identify family need, work in collaboration with family members and partner organisations to ensure we are offering the right support at the right time.

We have developed a practical relevant course for those working with vulnerable individuals and families to explore complex needs and consider potential barriers to support. Building skills and practice in supporting families with a trauma informed and relationship-based approach.

The course produces more confident and competent practitioners who are ready to deliver positive and effective support to individuals and families. It is suitable for front line staff in Early Help/Family hub roles alongside targeted and universal services.

Learning outcomes:

  • Gaining a shared understanding of what a family is and the importance of keeping the child at the heart of practice.
  • Understand the barriers to support in family working including multiple and complex needs.
  • Be able to build and maintain effective relationships considering the role of support and challenge
  • Consider the benefits of working with families in a relationship-based way and using a trauma informed approach
  • Be aware of the importance of reflective practice when working with families
  • Be able to develop skills in working alongside families to achieve sustainable change.
