Trauma Informed Practice
We have an excellent reputation nationally in respect of our trauma informed practice knowledge, support and training. For bespoke consultancy support around embedding see here.
To provide a trauma-informed approach to children, young people and families professionals need to have an awareness and understanding of the impact of trauma and learn how to effectively minimise its effects without causing additional trauma.
We provide a range of bespoke training packages from a 1-day introduction to a 3-day programme and follow up workshops to ensure staff engage in programmes which best meet their level of responsibility for identifying and responding to the impact of trauma. We draw on up to date evidence from research related to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) and the impact of trauma and provide information on building trauma-informed systems, and support networks that address secondary/vicarious trauma for workers.
Training and support will be tailored to local area need and offer staff resources and tools to build confidence to work with individuals and families alongside increasing their knowledge and understanding. Training covers:

- What is meant by the term “trauma” and how it affects the nervous system
- How trauma symptoms may present
- Exploring the four principles of TIP – Recognise, Respond, avoid Re traumatisation and building Resilience.
- Learn about tools and techniques to support understanding trauma and respond
- The principles of self-regulation and exercises that can promote this
- Different ways of taking a trauma informed approach
- How we manage the impact of supporting traumatised children/parents on our own well-being
- Explore how trauma affects staff specifically considering compassion fatigue, secondary and vicarious stress
- Understand secondary and vicarious trauma and how to respond to it and prevent it
- Consider how to build resilience in ourselves and our team
- Develop practice skills and techniques to come alongside the client in a trauma informed way

What our clients say:
This is crucial training- especially in light of the current world situation- everyone is experiencing some kind of trauma at the moment and for some this may tip them over the edge. These strategies will provide a net to catch them and hopefully enable them to find the right approach and self-belief to rebuild and move on successfully.
Trainer was really excellent, knew her stuff and engaged the group. Useful training for staff at all levels in Children's Services
Working with Interface provides a good example of partnership working to drive forward a large scale, multi-agency training and development programme. Their values and approach underpinning their work reflected their commitment and drive to the programme. Interface shared the vision and values of the programme to improve outcomes and make a difference for children and families this was reflected through the delivery of the whole programme and the commitment and insight of the trainers.
Thank you so much for the super session for senior leaders today on embedding Trauma Informed Practice and for your flexibility. You gave us some great information and sensitively challenged us about the next steps to help us embed this. Really looking forward to future sessions with you.
I think the programme will have a long lasting impact on me, the discussions were at times quite challenging but this was good, it really made me think and be more reflective on my practice as a manager. Thank you to Laura for all the work you put into facilitating and also the really useful handouts, really enjoyed it all!
We are absolutely delighted with both the training and your approach to working with us. We couldn't be happier. It is a large programme and you have been flexible and responsive and your trainers are high quality.
We have worked with Interface on a number of occasions. This has included commissioning them to undertake an Evaluation of the Teaching Partnership and delivering a Train the Trainer package on Trauma Informed Practice across the Cheshire and Merseyside region. In all communications with them they have been open and flexible to our ideas and helped us to shape what can be delivered and undertaken, in true collaboration with them. This has ensured the desired outcomes. They bring so much to the table from their knowledge of the arena we work in, their experience from previous work they have undertaken and they have personel that are inspiring, accommodating and work so effectively with all that we have thrown at them.
We have been so happy with the work that Interface has undertaken for us that we have just commissioned them to facilitate a national Teaching Partnership project that we are part of. I look forward to working with them in the near future.
